Serving the community since 1979, the Victims Assistance Center (VAC) is a comprehensive victims service agency whose mission is to assist and provide direct services to victims and survivors of violence and crime in Jefferson County, NY.
VAC purchased a historic 19th century mansion in October 2017 formerly owned by Rose and Kiernan Inc. Insurance Company. The Center maintained the building’s historic front exterior, rebuilt the rear portion which was added in the early 1900s, completed needed abatements, and performed updates to make the building more energy efficient.
The VAC new building houses 30 employees and encompasses two floors of 5,000 square-feet of office space, which has been upgraded to be fully handicap-accessible, including an elevator. The parking lot area has also been expanded to better accommodate the employees and clients visiting the center.
The building will additionally house the Child Advocacy Center, an organization that provides services for child victims and their non-offending family members. The Child Advocacy Center will occupy the first floor, while the Victims Assistance Center will reside in the upper level.
