SUNY Canton Parking Lot

Client: SUNY Canton | Location: Canton, NY | Completion Date: 2013-2014 | Services Provided: Civil/Site Engineering, Land Surveying

Aubertine and Currier was contracted by SUNY Canton to provide the civil engineering and site design services for the +/- 50,000 sf reconstruction of SUNY Canton’s Parking Lot #5. The design of the 109 space parking lot #5 included 3 double loaded tiered parking lots separated by grassed lawn areas.

Preliminary services included a site visit to examine existing site conditions, obtain project related background information from SUNY Canton personnel, and establishing a project timeline. Parking lot reconstruction was being completed based upon recommendations from SUNY Canton’s ongoing Campus Wide Survey, Master Plan and Utility Study.

Design/Construction document development included the design and development of preliminary plans to submit to SUNY Canton for verification of project scope. Final design and construction plans were developed to include; areas of full depth asphalt reconstruction, partial milling and overlay, grading and drainage design for sheet flow drainage and reconstruction of adjacent lawn areas, ditches and swales, granite curbing, sidewalk reconstruction, replacement of light fixtures, installation of an emergency “Blue Light” phone, signage, and layout of erosion and sediment controls. Details were included for the driveway and parking lot pavement and base, seeding and site restoration details, and the sediment and erosion controls. Utility design was included for the installation of new parking lot lights that used energy efficient LED fixtures. Electrical design services were provided by sub-consultant Jade Stone Engineering. Technical Specifications were developed in MasterSpec format and the Final Plans and Specifications were delivered to SUNY Canton for bidding.

Aubertine and Currier provided Construction Administration services throughout the six week construction period. Construction administration tasks included review of shop drawings, photograph documentation of the existing conditions prior to construction activity, periodic observation of construction activities to verify compliance with specifications and project drawings, assist with the development and review and change orders and pay requests, and the preparation of the punch list.
