Memorial Child Development Center Playgrounds

Client: Army NAF Contracting | Location: Fort Drum, NY  | Completion Date: 2016  | Services Provided: Civil/Site Engineering, Land Surveying, QA/QC, Construction Administration Support

The Memorial Child Development Center is an existing 132 student Military child care center which serves children 3 to 6 years of age. The center is comprised of six (6) classrooms, three (3) of which serve students 3 to 5 years of age, and three (3) which serve students 5 to 6 years of age. The facility underwent building renovations in 2015 and received funding for playground renovations, replacement and upgrades in 2016. Each classroom has direct access to one of six (6) dedicated outdoor recreation and educational playground areas. All playground areas are ABA and ADA accessible, with specific pieces of equipment and play areas being designated for use by students with specific disability impairments. Each of the six (6) playgrounds have diverse individually themed play areas. Play Area components included:

Aubertine and Currier Architects, Engineers and Land Surveyors, PLLC Land Survey and Civil/Site design services to include preliminary planning, local design support and Quality Assurance Quality Control support to the Design/Built Contractor and their designer which was located out of state. In addition to QA/QC design support services, A&C provided construction administration support and materials testing services. The playground construction project include the demolition and removal of the majority of play equipment, utilization of some equipment and shade structures to remain, complete regrading, complete concrete and asphalt path reconstruction for ADA accessibility, complete underground drainage collection system replacement, play area cushioned carpet areas, sod play areas, and fencing replacement. All construction and equipment were installed in the summer of 2016 in preparation for the students return in the fall of 2016.
