Location: Lake Ontario, New York
This new residence has been designed with nature serving as the major driving force. The site is home to 360 degree panoramic views of meadows, forests, and the open water. The remote site situated on the eastern shoreline of Lake Ontario drove design goals for sustainability and durability. Full height ICF walls with a Stucco finish provided superior insulation as well as strength against driving prevailing winds from the southwest. Large windows to the south with solar shading provide passive solar heating as well as panoramic views of the Lake. Geothermal heat pumps use the more consistent temperature found a few feet below the surface of the ground to provide efficient heating in the winter and cooling during the summer. Solar panels located on the roof of the garage will offset most of the rest of the energy demand for the home.
