The Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport completed a $4.3 million Rehabilitation project on Runway 14-32, requiring the removal of approximately 6,977 feet of existing runway, and installing new pavement on the entire runway. The airport and the Prime contractor, Suit-Kote, won the Asphalt Pavement Showcase Award by the New York State Construction Materials Association for the successful completion of the project. They faced a tight deadline and demanding specifications (1/4” elevation tolerance), both of which were successfully met.
Aubertine and Currier Architects, Engineers and Land Surveyors, PLLC (A&C) assisted Suit-Kote Corporation in the complete resurfacing of the runway, working alongside the contractor to provide Professional Land Surveying Services. The undertaking was an aggressive two week schedule in the middle of July, requiring an A&C field crew and manager to be available 24/7 during the duration of the assignment. A&C’s crew was responsible for quality control of each course of pavement as well as site layout. They also verified the existing surface, laid out the grid for profile milling, verified the top of the milled surface and top of true and leveling course, laid out all runway striping, and completed As-Builts of the final top surface.
The runway reopened on July 22nd, marking the end of the project which was done within the scheduled two week timeframe, and actually completed one day ahead of schedule.
