Aubertine and Currier provided Civil Engineering services to evaluate ongoing problems with the Motel’s existing on-site wastewater treatment systems starting in 2011. During investigation it was determined the facility was served by two systems. One served the older 17 unit portion of the Motel building, and the other served the newer 6 unit portion of the Motel building. The older system was determined to have failed and was experiencing periodic backup and effluent discharges in the area of the septic tank. The exact location and extent of the absorption field was unable to be determined. The newer and smaller system was located and determined to be functional, although in it’s later stages of design life.

The Motel was undergoing conversion from “Motel” nightly rental, to that of long term rentals. This required a change in occupancy permitting status with the NYS DOH. Additionally, the NYS DOH required the design of a replacement system for both the larger and smaller portions of the Motel. Only the larger was required to be replaced, with the plans being available should the smaller system fail.

The designs completed were in compliance with the DEC Design Standards for Wastewater Treatment Works, 1998. The new systems were designed as a shallow trench system as high groundwater was found during the site investigation. Design plans and SPDES permitting was completed for the replacement of the 17 units treatment system.

Bldg A—17 Unit On-site Wastewater Treatment System:

  • ·1,700 gpd flow rate
  • ·3,000 gal septic tank
  • ·Duplex dosing pump chamber
  • ·Shallow Trench Absorption Field
  • ·2,834 sf of absorption trench
  • ·1,417’ of pipe trench

Bldg B—6 Unit On-site Wastewater Treatment System:

  • ·600 gpd flow rate
  • ·1,000 gal septic tank
  • ·Duplex dosing pump chamber
  • ·Shallow Trench Absorption Field
  • ·857 sf of absorption trench
  • ·430’ of pipe trench

Both systems required the installation of pump stations and leach fields that are dosed. All calculations were included on the detail sheets as well as percolation and deep hole test results.

Aubertine and Currier completed all required permitting and applications as required by the NYS DOH and NYS DEC agencies.
