International Council Welcome Center Water System Modifications
Client: Thousand Islands Bridge Authority | Location: Alexandria Bay, NY | Completion Date: 2015 | Services Provided: Architectural, Engineering (Structural & Civil), Land Surveying
This project included the renovation of existing toilet rooms located at the Visitor’s Center in Collins Landing. Aubertine and Currier Architects, Engineers & Land Surveyors, PLLC was contracted by the Thousand Islands Bridge Authority (TIBA) to evaluate and design water treatment system modifications for the public water supply servicing the International Council Welcome Center. The Welcome Center is located at the foot of the Thousand Islands International Bridge, on the US side, at Collins Landing, NY. The well and water treatment system services for the Welcome Center had recently failed an inspection by the NYS Department of Health (DOH), and required treatment system modifications. The Public Water Supply (PWS) at the Welcome Center serves the International Council Offices, the Welcome Center’s Tourism information desk and rest area rest rooms which serve as many as 330 visitors per day.
The 2015 scope of work/design included water testing and analysis, removal of the undersized substandard UV system, design of a water softener, design of UV treatment capable of meeting EPA and NYS DOH standards, and installation within the available mechanical room space available. Aubertine and Currier also performed an inspection and evaluation of the existing system and submission for PWS permit approval by the NYS Department of Health.
The treatment modifications designed in 2015 were to conform to ever changing EPA and NYS DOH public water supply treatment criteria. The treatment system provides a total of 10 gpm to the offices, welcome center and rest room facilities. The treatment system includes:
- ·1980’s era well, 10+ gmp Ground Water Source
- ·Submersible Well Pump
- ·Water Meter
- ·Pressure Tank
- ·Pressure Switch
- ·Water Softener
- ·UV Treatment Systems consisting of NSF-55 Class A, 10 gmp, dual VIQUA PRO 50 Units, 186mj/cm2 validated, 460 watt, alarm, and solenoid valve failure shutoff.
