Boonville Hand in Hand Municipal Water Extension
Client: Hand in Hand | Completion Date: 2009 | Services Provided: Land Surveying, Civil & Site Engineering
The Town & Village of Boonville is located within the northwestern corner of Oneida County, NY. The Town of Boonville is a rural community surrounding the Village of Boonville. The Village acts as the primary economic business, tourism and service provider to the outlying Town and communities. In addition to being the business hub of the area, the Village, through its Municipal Commission, provides water and electric utility services to specific outlying areas of the Village.
The project included a 700 foot extension of the Municipal Commission’s water distribution system south along NYS Route 12. The initial intent of the project was to provide water service to the planned Hand In Hand Early Childhood Center, and other proposed development south of the Village. The Hand In Hand Childcare Center project received a Rural Development Grant and Loan Funding for the construction of the center. In addition to Rural Development funding for the project, the County, Town and Village pledged support through in-kind services. The construction was completed by the Municipal Commission Operation and Maintenance crew as part of the in-kind services towards the project.
The project site was located within an area denoted by the Village of Boonville Municipal Commission as being part of their wellhead protection “Aquifer Recharge Area”. This represented additional permitting requirements with the Village of Boonville and potential environmental contamination concerns. NYS DOT permitting was completed for construction of the water main within the steep slope of the NYS Rt. 12 Right of Way. A&C completed required permitting of the extension with the NYS DOH, and construction administration, inspections, and certification of the water main installation.
Design and construction requirements were completed in accordance with AWWA and the 2007 Ten States Standards, Recommended Standards for Water Works.
