ABC 50 Studio Renovation, Watertown, NY
Client: Nexstar Broadcasting | Location: Watertown, NY | Completion Date: 2018 | Services Provided: Architecture & Structural Engineering
Aubertine and Currier (A&C) completed Architectural and Structural Design services for the renovation of the existing space located in the historic public square area of downtown Watertown, NY. The location was chosen for its visibility being right in the heart of the city and for its ample parking. The prime location gives the broadcast station the ability to connect with businesses in a more centralized location. It also helps them to continue pursuing community partnerships. WWTI-ABC 50 has been a local broadcasting station in the Watertown area since 1985.
The renovation for the new station consisted of a complete demolition of the interiors of two adjoining commercial spaces. The new facility occupies approximately 7,500 square feet of the 9,156 square-foot building. The scope of work consisted of schematic design, which included creating CAD files from existing blueprints and verifying existing conditions. A&C then provided the client with conceptual floor plans and drawings of the Exterior façade and elevations. These conceptual plans were then further developed by meeting with the owner to incorporate any changes. A&C then did design development which included revisions to the schematic design as per additional meetings with the client. A code review was done to make sure the building would meet NYS Building Code requirements and NYS Energy Conservation. A&C also had to coordinate with Mechanical, Plumbing and Electrical Engineers to integrate their drawings into the final permit set for solicitation of contractor bids.
The newly remodeled space includes an enclosed vestibule and lobby at the entrance of the building with a receptionist area. An open collaborative area and sales cubicles help to create promote a team work environment. A new conference room off the main entrance with storefront glass makes a statement when you walk into the new office. There are also several new office workspaces, a advertising studio, huddle room and break room. The finishes and lighting selected give the studio an open and modern feel that catches your attention as soon as you walk in the front door.
