Aubertine and Currier Architects, Engineers & Land Surveyors, PLLC served as the Project Architect for the renovation project at the Reading Room Association of Gouverneur. The project consisted of renovations to an unused attic space into a multi-purpose reading area. During the preliminary phase of the project, Project Architect Michael Aubertine worked closely with Mr. James Warren of the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) to meet the NYS requirements and to preserve the character of the historic building. Access to the renovated space was provided by an elevator and decorative stairs, detailed to match the existing woodwork. The space was super insulated with closed cell polyurethane foam for energy efficiency. In addition, the mechanical and electrical systems were upgraded to minimize annual utility costs. Improvements also included a heat recovery ventilation system to improve indoor air quality during the heating and cooling seasons.
