Jefferson Lewis - Boards of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) Parking Lot

Client: Jefferson Lewis BOCES | Location: Watertown, NY | Completion Date: 2013 | Services Provided: Civil Engineering

In early 2013, Aubertine and Currier was contracted by Jefferson-Lewis BOCES to complete a site evaluation and Cost Estimate for an upcoming infrastructure project to be completed at the Watertown Campus. Engineering services included conducting an initial walkthrough of the property to view the area of interest, which included walkways and curbing surrounding the front of the Charles H. Bohlen, Jr. Technical Center, miscellaneous adjacent driveway pavement and drainage between the Exceptional Student building and Administration building. Cost estimates were prepared for the following items: Curb and Walkway Upgrades (Technical Center Main Building), Miscellaneous Asphalt Repairs (Alternate Education Building), Storm Drainage (Exceptional Student Building), Miscellaneous Pavement Repair and Grading (Front Access Drive).

In July 2013, Design and Engineering services began for the development of plans for asphalt parking lot improvements, walks, drainage systems, and lawns areas. Design was completed for the following site improvements:

·10,000 sf of full depth asphalt reconstruction and spot repair

·22,000 sf of drainage swale and adjacent lawn improvements

·1,000’ of granite curb

·1,000’ of asphalt 8’, 10’ and 12’ wide asphalt walk

·Main entrance improvements

·Accessible parking space improvements

·500’ of drainage swale construction

·265’ of 24” dia. storm culvert construction

The parking lot repair and reconstruction was spread over a various portions of the Campus. The bulk of the repairs took place along the frontage of the Technical Center and included the primary student entries to the building. Substantial phasing and coordination between the Contractor and Owner was necessary to facilitate temporary rerouting of bus drop off and pick up entry into the building, and minimize disturbance of ongoing student educational activities.

Aubertine and Currier developed final construction plans and specifications, oversaw the bidding process and construction administration for the project. Final design authorization was provided in July 2013, bidding occurred in August, with construction completed in September 2013. Final construction costs were $243,000.
