Clarkson Hall Underground Water & Sewer Utility Upgrades

In the summer of 2014, Aubertine and Currier was contacted by Clarkson University and Jade Stone Engineering, the University’s MEP Engineer, regarding planned renovations and utility upgrades to Clarkson Hall. Clarkson Hall is one of several historic buildings located within University’s downtown campus. Clarkson Hall is a three story graduate student education complex that is utilized year round, and open 24 hours a day. It houses classrooms, laboratories, lecture halls, and the morgue within the basement where the medical training and research cadavers are kept. Clarkson was planning major interior renovations to the building which included upgrading plumping, electrical, mechanical, and fire protection systems. A&C was requested to evaluate the underground water and sanitary sewer utilities serving the building, and prepare design plans for replacement and upgrade. All renovations and utility upgrades were completed in the spring and summer of 2015 while the building and classes remained operational. The site underground water and sewer upgrades were budgeted at $100,000.

Design and Engineering of site improvements included:

  • 500’ of 8” sewer lateral replacement
  • 4 sewer manholes
  • 2- lateral connection to the building
  • Connection to Village sewer main in street
  • Temporary bypass pumping during construction
  • 300’ of 6” domestic/fire service main
  • Connection to 12” Village main
  • Village street crossing
  • Reconstruction of concrete walks, asphalt roads and parking
  • Restoration of lawns and landscaping
  • Coordination with electric and communication utility upgrades
  • Coordination with HVAC and refrigeration chiller upgrades
