Fort Drum Dam, Bridge & Culvert Projects

IEDD T4A Bridge Abutments, Fort Drum, NY

Aubertine and Currier performed the required structural design calculations to size (2) bridge footings and foundations. Design elements included the design of the concrete, reinforcement and connections to meet regional code requirements and State DOT standards. Our deliverables also included the preparation of a Site & Grading plan showing the location, orientation, elevation, and grading of each bridge and foundation plans for each bridge showing size, dimensions, cross sections and other design elements required to construct the foundations.

Bridge 38 Replacement, Fort Drum, NY

Engineering services included the survey, civil and structural design associated with replacement of the Lake School Road (Fort Drum Range Road) Bridge #38 span over the West Branch Stream. Topographic survey mapping was completed for the 600’ long portion of roadway reconstruction and associated 200’ section of the stream. The 6,418 acre Bridge 38 drainage area was analyzed to determine the contributing watershed and corresponding runoff upstream. The watershed area was determined utilizing USGS mapping to determine approximate stream and tributary locations, in conjunction with aerial imagery to determine surface conditions.   HydroCAD modeling calculations were completed utilizing TR-55, TR-20 and Soils Conservation Service (SCS) methodology utilizing HydroCAD Software. The projected 100 year 777 cfs stream flow was modeled utilizing HEC-RAS and HEC-18 to predict scour potential. Stream channel, fill and road side slopes were designed with rip rap channel and slope protection.

Structural design was completed for the reconstruction of the 13’ span to a 28’ span, 22’ high bridge. The Bridge consisted of 22’ tall concrete abutments founded on micro-piles, a weathering steel superstructure with glulam deck and pressure treatment timber wearing surface. The design vehicle and capacity were the military vehicle RG33-MRAP, 40 ton vehicle, equivalent to the NYSDOT HL-93 design vehicle. Design was completed in accordance with the Department of the Army Technical Manual, FM 3-34.343 “Military Non-Standard Fixed Bridging” and American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, 6th Edition.

Bridge 37 Replacement, Fort Drum, NY

Aubertine and Currier performed the Survey, Civil and Structural engineering services for the replacement of Bridge 37. The 5’x8’ CMP structure will be replaced with a 3-sided pre-cast concrete culvert with integral wing walls, installation of guiderails and all necessary sitework. The survey of wetlands delineations and calculation of wetlands impacts was completed and permitting coordinated with Fort Drum Public Works Environmental for completion of State and Army Corps permitting.

Bridge 15 Replacement, Fort Drum, NY

Aubertine and Currier performed the Survey, Civil and Structural Engineering services for the replacement of Bridge 15. HydroCAD modeling calculations were completed for the 2,415 acre watershed utilizing TR-55, TR-20 and Soils Conservation Service (SCS) methodology utilizing HydroCAD Software. The dual 36” culverts were to be replaced with a 3 sided pre-cast concrete culvert with integral wing walls, installation of guiderails, and necessary site work. The survey of wetlands delineations and calculations of wetlands impacts was completed and permitting coordinated with Fort Drum Public Works Environmental for completion of State and Army Corps permitting.
