Town of Vestal Depot Museum

Aubertine and Currier is pleased to announce its Architectural Design Services for the relocation of the Vestal Depot Museum in Vestal, New York. The existing building was constructed in 1881 and originally designated as a passenger train depot for the Delaware, Lackawanna, and Western Railroad. After the merger between the Eric Railroad and the Delaware, Lackawanna, and Western Railroads, the building was abandoned and fell into decline. The Town of Vestal purchased the depot in the early1970s and began to restore the building. Work included replacing exterior finishes, installing a new bathroom, replacing the heating system, and constructing a new deck for easier access. Despite the restoration process, the historic character of the building remained intact. On June 4, 1976, the building was re-opened under the ownership of the Town of Vestal as a museum. In 2012, the building was designed as a local historical landmark. The Town of Vestal seeks to relocate the museum to the Vestal Rail Trail near the Vestal Coal House on Stage Road. Aubertine and Currier has designed a new basement and foundation on which the museum will sit. Additionally, a new deck and ramp will be added to the building to meet ADA requirements.

In keeping with the historical status of the building, existing doors, windows, and finishes will remain. A new slate roof will replace the existing slate roof and new flood protection will be added to satisfy the requirements of FEMA. After the new basement and foundation are constructed, the entire museum will be moved and set in its new location. A&C will be providing the design services as part of a team which includes Delta Engineers, Architects & Surveyors as the Prime Consultant.
