Indian River Lakes Conservancy - Redwood Hill ADA Trail

The Indian River Lakes Conservancy (IRLC) was   awarded a grant from the NYS Office of Parks Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) through Title 9 of the Environmental Protection Act of 1993 to design and build an ADA accessible trail on the Redwood Hill Preserve owned by IRLC in the hamlet of Redwood. The project will provide an ADA compliant parking area and trail to a trailside classroom and scenic overlook deck with views of Butterfield Lake.

Aubertine and Currier was contracted by the Indian River Lakes Conservancy to perform Structural and Civil/Site Engineering, and assistance with Wetlands Permitting, Public Bidding and Construction Administration.

Building an accessible trail has long been a dream project for IRLC. They received a $134,000 grant from the federally funded Recreational Trails Program, administered by OPRHP to help build a 2460 foot accessible trail on the Preserve. The accessible trail will follow an existing foot path that leads from the access road and parking area and past the trailside classroom, The trail will then loop through a beautiful mixed pine and hardwood forest to an accessible deck and benches with a panoramic view of Butterfield Lake. The project will provide the local community and the region with a universally accessible venue for outdoor recreation, environmental education, and guided trail walks for adults and children.
